AETC Strengthens Strategic Partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat to Advance Africa’s Energy Transition

The Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC) recently paid a strategic visit to the Commonwealth Secretariat as part of its ongoing efforts to build high-impact partnerships that accelerate Africa’s transition toward sustainable, inclusive, and technology-driven energy systems. The engagement reflects AETC’s commitment to working with multilateral institutions to translate policy ambitions into practical, bankable solutions across the energy value chain.

At the heart of the discussions was the shared recognition that Africa’s energy future cannot be delivered in isolation. With energy access, climate resilience, industrialization, and intra-Commonwealth trade increasingly interconnected, both institutions explored areas of collaboration that bridge energy innovation, technology deployment, capacity building, and investment mobilization.

During the engagement, Her Excellency Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey commended AETC for its growing role as a convening platform for energy technology, policy dialogue, and private sector engagement across the continent. She acknowledged the Centre’s work in creating spaces where governments, industry leaders, investors, and innovators can collaborate on practical solutions to Africa’s energy challenges. Her Excellency also expressed pride in seeing a Ghanaian-led institution playing an increasingly visible role on the global stage, contributing to conversations that shape Africa’s position in the global energy transition.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing clean energy innovation, strengthening institutional and human capacity, and mobilizing investment into sustainable energy solutions, particularly in emerging and developing markets across Africa and the wider Commonwealth.

As part of the engagement, AETC formally extended an invitation to Her Excellency Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey to participate as a Keynote Speaker at the upcoming Africa Energy Technology Conference, scheduled to take place from 19–21 May in Accra, Ghana. The Centre also presented the Conference as a strategic platform for advancing high-level dialogue on energy technology, investment mobilization, and regional cooperation, while seeking the Commonwealth Secretariat’s support as an Institutional Partner for the event.

As AETC continues to deepen partnerships with international institutions, governments, and the private sector, engagements such as this reflect the Centre’s broader mission: to ensure Africa’s energy transition is not only sustainable and technologically enabled, but also inclusive, locally anchored, and economically transformative.
