Our Purpose
The Africa Energy Technology Centre connects the people, the knowledge and the partnerships that turn energy ambition into lasting capacity.
Our work reaches from national programmes in Ghana to platforms for dialogue, enterprise and trade across the continent. We bring them together around one purpose: an energy future built by African institutions.
To accelerate Africa's transition to safe, affordable and reliable energy by convening its leaders, incubating national programmes, and bridging African ambition with global technology, capital and partnership.
Why It Matters
Africa has the sun, the minerals and the young people an energy transition runs on, and yet most of the world's people without electricity live on the continent. These are the latest figures their sources publish, each with the year it describes.
Over 560 Million
people in sub-Saharan Africa lived without electricity in 2024.
970 Million
people in sub-Saharan Africa had no clean way to cook in 2024.

of the world's best solar resources are in Africa, which has about 1% of the world's installed solar power.

of the world's clean energy investment reaches Africa, home to a fifth of the world's people.

Our Approach
Three connected ways of turning energy dialogue into lasting institutional capability. Everything the Centre does falls under one of them.
We bring the right people to the same table. Africa's energy challenges cross borders, sectors and disciplines, and no government, company or institution solves them alone. The Centre creates the settings where they meet, most visibly through the Africa Energy Technology Conference and year-round through forums, dialogues and high-level engagements. We do not only host conversations; we design them to produce commitments.
Convening only matters if it leads somewhere. The Centre turns dialogue into delivery by designing national initiatives: YEEIP for young energy entrepreneurs, GNSPI for households that can generate their own power, and ASETIH as a permanent institution for energy technology innovation. These are programmes designed to change a country, and a continent, not events.
Africa does not lack ambition or talent. What it has often lacked is the bridge between local capability and global technology, capital and partnership. The Centre builds those bridges, in active dialogue with partners in the UAE, the United States and Europe, and through its own platforms for youth enterprise, investment and trade.
