AETC Leadership Pays Courtesy Visit to Angolan Ambassador to Ghana to Discuss Strategic Partnership for AETC 2026

ACCRA, GHANA — In a move to strengthen regional energy ties and foster cross-border technological exchange, a high-level delegation from the Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC), led by its Founder and President, Emelia Cedar-Palm Akumah, paid a courtesy visit to the Angolan Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Rui Orlando Xavier.

The visit served as a formal briefing on the upcoming third edition of the Africa Energy Technology Conference (AETC 2026), scheduled to take place from May 19–21, 2026, in Accra. Under the theme “From Borders to Bridges: Driving Intra-African Trade and Development through Energy & Technology Services,” the conference aims to position Africa as a creator rather than just a consumer of energy solutions.

Building a “Bridge” Between Two Energy Giants

During the meeting, Ms. Akumah emphasized the critical role Angola plays as one of Africa’s premier energy powerhouses. The discussions centered on how the AETC 2026 platform can facilitate deeper collaboration between Ghana and Angola, particularly in the harmonization of energy policies and the sharing of subsea and deep-water exploration technologies.

The Angolan Ambassador commended the AETC’s vision, noting that the conference aligns with Angola’s strategic goals for economic diversification and increased intra-continental trade.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The visit identified several priority areas where the AETC and the Angolan mission in Ghana will collaborate to ensure the success of the 2026 summit:

  • Technology Exchange & Subsea Innovation: Leveraging Angola’s extensive experience in deep-water oil and gas operations to support Ghana’s growing upstream sector.
  • Policy Harmonization: Working toward a unified regulatory framework that enables seamless energy service exports between the two nations under the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area).
  • Local Content Development: Strengthening the capacity of domestic service providers to participate more effectively in high-value energy projects across the continent.
  • Infrastructure Investment: Exploring joint venture opportunities for cross-border energy projects, including pipelines and regional power pool integrations.

A Focus on Youth Empowerment & The Next Generation

A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to the Youth Empowerment. Ms. Akumah shared her commitment to “baking” youth into the energy transition, moving beyond dialogue to actual ownership of energy solutions.

The Ambassador expressed strong support for the Youth Spotlight sessions at AETC 2026, which will feature:

  • Incubation Platforms: Providing young African innovators with the mentorship and venture capital needed to scale their energy tech startups.
  • Skills Mobility: Creating pathways for young professionals from Angola and Ghana to engage in cross-border internships and technical training programs.
  • Entrepreneurial Ownership: Encouraging the development of youth-led SMEs that can provide essential tech services to National Oil Companies (NOCs) like GNPC and Sonangol.

Looking Ahead

As the countdown to May 2026 begins, this courtesy visit marks the start of a robust partnership aimed at ensuring Angola’s high-level representation at the conference. By bridging the gap between West and Southern Africa, AETC 2026 is set to redefine the continent’s energy landscape through collective innovation and youthful energy.

“We are moving from borders that separate us to bridges that connect our resources and our talent,” Ms. Akumah remarked. “With partners like Angola, the vision of an energy-sovereign Africa is within reach.”
