The Africa Energy Technology Centre is a pan-African institution based in Accra, Ghana. We exist to accelerate the transition to safe, affordable and reliable energy, not only by talking about it, but by building the programmes, partnerships and institutions that deliver it.
Our Story
The Centre was founded on a simple conviction: Africa's energy future must be built by African institutions. For too long the continent has been a consumer of other people's energy technology and the subject of other people's energy plans.
We began by creating a meeting place, the Africa Energy Technology Conference, where the people who shape the continent's energy future could gather, debate and commit. That convening work grew into something larger. Today the Centre designs national initiatives, builds international partnerships, and is working towards a permanent institution for energy technology innovation on the continent.
We are a company limited by guarantee, guided by an advisory board and independent by design: built to serve the public interest and to outlast any single project or moment.
To accelerate Africa's transition to safe, affordable and reliable energy by convening its leaders, incubating national programmes, and bridging African ambition with global technology, capital and partnership.
A future in which every African has access to clean, reliable and affordable energy, and in which the institutions that deliver it are African-built and world-class.
