Brand Guidelines

The Centre's Brand.

How to present the Africa Energy Technology Centre: its lockup and globe, its colours, typefaces, shapes and voice. For partners, the media and anybody designing on the Centre's behalf.

Our Name

Say It the Same Way Every Time.

Write the Centre's name in full the first time it appears; after that, it is the Centre.

Full Name
Africa Energy Technology Centre
After the First Mention
The Centre, with a capital C, and Centre spelled the British way.
AETC
The lockup’s own letters. The conference shares them, so beside the conference, write the Centre’s name in full.
The Motto
THRIVE · EVOLVE · IMPACT · BRIDGEFour words, in capitals, separated by a centred dot.
What the Centre Is
A pan-African institution in Accra, and a company limited by guarantee.
Its Initiatives
YEEIP (Youth Energy Entrepreneurship & Incubation Program), ASETIH (Africa Smart Energy Technology & Innovation Hub), GNSPI (Ghana National Solar Prosumer Initiative). Written in full the first time, then by their letters.
Its Platforms
Africa Energy Youth Forum and Intra-African Energy Trade & Investment Forum, each with an identity of its own.

Space and Size

Room to Breathe, Large Enough to Read.

Keep a clear space around the lockup that nothing else enters, and never set it smaller than the sizes below, where the Centre's name beneath the letters stops being legible.

Africa Energy Technology Centre
x is a quarter of the lockup’s height, on every side.
The lockup
At least 120 px wide on screen, 30 mm wide in print.
Africa Energy Technology Centre
The globe alone
At least 24 px on screen, 8 mm in print.
  • Do: Scale the lockup from its corner, so its proportions never change.
  • Do: Give it more room than the minimum wherever the layout allows.
  • Do not: Let text, edges or other logos into its clear space.

What to Avoid

The Lockup Is Never Redrawn.

Each of these changes the brand, and none is allowed. When a layout seems to need one, write to the Centre instead.

Africa Energy Technology Centre
Do not stretch or squash it.
Africa Energy Technology Centre
Do not change its colours.
Africa Energy Technology Centre
Do not rotate or tilt it.
Africa Energy Technology Centre
Do not add shadows, glows or outlines.
Africa Energy Technology Centre
Do not set the colour lockup on deep blue or a busy photograph.
AETC
Do not separate the globe from the letters or rearrange them.

Colour

The Colours of the Lockup.

Every colour on the site comes from the lockup: the blue of its letters, the green of its name, and the crimson, amber and green of the continents on its globe. Press any code to copy it; contrast is rated for text under WCAG 2.2.

In Proportion

White, 60%Deep and Centre Blue, 25%GreenAmberCrimson

A page is white, carried by blue, labelled in green; amber and crimson are accents, never all at once. The dark theme turns the blue to night and keeps the same roles.

Typography

Sora for Headings, Manrope for Reading.

Two typefaces, both free to use from Google Fonts. Sora gives the headings their geometric confidence; Manrope carries the reading text, the labels and the figures.

  • Convene. Incubate. Bridge.SemiBold
  • Convene. Incubate. Bridge.Bold

Headings only, set tight: a little negative letter spacing, and balanced over their lines.

The Centre connects the people, the knowledge and the partnerships that turn energy ambition into lasting capacity.

Labels in Capitals

Reading text at Regular, labels at Bold in capitals with open letter spacing, figures with even-width numerals.

Graphic Elements

The Globe's Lines, Its Dots and the Circle.

The Centre's shapes come from its globe: lines of longitude and latitude behind the deep blue bands, three dots in the continents' colours before every label, and the circle every icon sits in.

The globe’s lines, turned towards Africa. Behind deep blue bands at a whisper of white; never in colour, never over a photograph.
The Label
Three dots in the globe’s crimson, amber and green, before every label. The one flourish the site repeats.
Every icon in a circle, as round as the globe, in a soft tint of one of the lockup’s colours; on deep blue, in amber.
  • Do: Round the corners of cards and photographs generously, and keep them flat.
  • Do: Tell a button apart by its fill: blue on white, amber on deep blue.
  • Do not: Put a drop shadow or a glow on a button or a card.
  • Do not: Run a stripe of colour along the edge of a card or a header.

Photography

The Work, as It Happens.

Photographs show the Centre's convenings and the people Africa's energy future depends on: delegates, engineers, innovators, at work.

Energy, people and possibility. Illustrative photograph.
  • Do: Say when a photograph is illustrative, and never present one as a Centre event.
  • Do: Date every photograph of something that happened, and credit its photographer.
  • Do: Keep the subject in frame: crop around faces, never through them.
  • Do not: Use a photograph of a child without the written consent of a parent or guardian.
  • Do not: Crop a flyer or a poster: show it whole, so its words stay.
  • Do not: Tint a photograph in the globe’s colours; lay deep blue over it for words instead.

Voice and Writing

African-Led, Precise and Accountable.

The Centre speaks as an institution: plainly, in the public interest, with figures it can stand behind.

Every Figure Has a Source

  • Do: Something that happened, with its date; or a target, labelled as one.
  • Do not: A number with no source, or a target written as a result.

Titles in Title Case

  • Do: Where Does Your Ambition Meet Ours?
  • Do not: Where does your ambition meet ours?

No Em-Dashes

  • Do: Convene, incubate and bridge: three ways of working.
  • Do not: A long dash to join two thoughts. Use a colon, a comma or a full stop.

British Spelling

  • Do: The Centre, its programmes, its organisation.
  • Do not: The Center, its programs, its organization.

With Others

The Conference, the Platforms and Partners.

The Centre appears beside its own convening, its platforms and its partners. Each keeps its own identity.

Africa Energy Technology CentreAfrica Energy Technology Conference 2027
The Centre and its flagship convening side by side: the Centre first, a thin rule, the conference’s own logo, never merged. The conference’s own guidelines (opens a new tab) cover its brand.
Intra-African Energy Trade & Investment Forum
The platforms keep their own identities, as their websites set them. Name them in full, and link to their own sites.
  • Do: Show a partner with the logo it supplied, on white or as its own white version on deep blue.
  • Do: Keep a partner’s logo no taller than the Centre’s, with a thin rule between them.
  • Do not: Recolour, crop or restyle another organisation’s logo to match the Centre’s.
  • Do not: Suggest a partnership or an endorsement that has not been agreed in writing.
