Cookie Notice.

This notice lists everything theaetc.org stores on your device, and why. It sits alongside the Privacy Notice, which covers what we do with information you send us.

The Short Version

• This website sets no cookies of its own.

• It keeps one thing in your browser, and only if you ask for it: whether you chose the light or the dark view.

• It sets no advertising cookies and no social media trackers, and it does not follow you to other websites.

• We count visits without cookies, and without keeping anything that identifies you.

• Because none of this identifies you or serves anybody's advertising, we do not put a consent banner in your way.

Cookies, and the Other Things a Website Can Store

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on your next visit. A browser can also store things a website never sends anywhere, in what is called local storage. Both are covered here, because what matters to you is what sits on your device, whatever it is called.

What This Website Stores

• Your choice of view. When you switch between the light and the dark view, your browser remembers it, in local storage, under a single name. It stays in your browser, it is never sent to us, and it says nothing about you beyond which view you prefer. Leave the switch alone and nothing is stored at all.

• The check on the form. When you use the enquiry form, Cloudflare Turnstile confirms that a person is sending it, and while it does so it may keep a short-lived token in your browser. It serves that check and nothing else, and it does not follow you to other websites.

How We Count Visits

We use Vercel Web Analytics to see how many people read which pages. It records the page that was asked for, the country it was asked from, the website that referred you, and the kind of device you used. It sets no cookies, it stores nothing on your device, and it keeps nothing that identifies you: we can see that a page was read four hundred times without being able to say who read it.

What We Do Not Use

• No advertising cookies, no advertising identifiers, no retargeting.

• No social media pixels and no share-trackers.

• No third-party analytics that follow visitors from website to website.

• No fingerprinting of your device to recognise you across visits.

• Our typefaces are served by this website itself, so reading a page asks nothing of a font service.

The Privacy Notice describes one fingerprint, taken of a network address so that the form cannot be flooded. It is one-way, it is stored only with an enquiry you chose to send, it never touches your device, and it cannot be turned back into an address.

Content From Elsewhere

Photographs come from media.aetconference.com, which the Centre runs through Cloudflare. A publication you download is a file from the Centre's own storage. Neither puts anything on your device. This website embeds no videos, no maps and no social media feeds.

Clearing What Is Stored

Every browser can clear what a website has kept, and can refuse it in the first place. This website works fully with everything cleared: the only difference is that it will not remember which view you chose, and will open in the light one.

Changes to This Notice

When what this website stores changes, this notice changes with it, and so does the date at the top.
