Eng. Elizabeth Rogo

Eng. Elizabeth Rogo is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tsavo Oilfield Services, an energy technical consultancy registered in Kenya with its head office in Nairobi. Founded in July 2017, Tsavo describes itself as the first woman-founded oilfield services company in East Africa. It works across oil and gas, geothermal and renewable energy, and has partnerships in Namibia, with Resano Oilfield Services, and in Mozambique. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Africa Energy Technology Centre (AETC).

Rogo spent more than two decades with global oilfield services companies. She began as a field engineer in hydraulic fracturing with BJ Services in the United States, then worked for Baker Hughes offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, as a region engineer based in Aberdeen and as sales and marketing manager for completions in Angola. At Weatherford in East Africa she was a senior regional business development manager before becoming the company’s first female Country Manager for Kenya and then its Regional Head for Eastern Africa, and she has been described as the first woman to lead drilling-related operations in sub-Saharan Africa.

She holds a BSc from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Bachelor of Engineering from Dalhousie University, both in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was a non-executive director of Kenya Power and Lighting Company from July 2020 to June 2022, chairing its Strategy and Innovation Board Committee, and was appointed to the Presidential Taskforce on the Review of Power Purchase Agreements. She joined the board of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya in 2022 and was the African Energy Chamber’s President for East Africa from April 2020. She is a member of the Africa Region Advisory Board of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

At Tsavo, Rogo has led work in Kenya’s geothermal sector, including a field trial with the Geothermal Development Company and Baker Hughes of an oil and gas PDC drill bit at the Baringo-Silali geothermal project, and a World Bank-funded geochemistry laboratory feasibility study for the National Oil Corporation of Kenya. She advocates for local content, the transition to renewable energy and women in technical and entrepreneurial leadership, and runs a mentorship programme for engineering and geoscience interns and graduates. Her recognitions include a place on Africa Oil Week’s 2022 list of Africa’s 50 most inspirational female energy executives and the SPE Africa Regional Director’s Special Award in 2024.
